About d_parture spa

In 2012 d_parture spa took on the challenge of delivering spa services to the flying public at the hold gate areas of USAir Philadelphia International Airport Terminal F. The result became the innovative new concept of mobile massage units offering chair massage, foot massage, hand massage and scalp and eye massage at the gates.

The concept was designed to respond to passengers during delayed flights. d_parture spa introduced an innovative new design for the mobile units as well partnered with eMobilePOS and Daily Systems to provide a complete mobile POS solution based on the Apple iPhone 4 for speedy, on-the-spot checkout.

“We wanted to be independent from the airport infrastructure, and it was a requirement that the solution be completely mobile,” says Gina Stern, CEO and founder of d_parture spa. “Rather than looking for a POS system, we wanted to find a versatile solution that would support all our IT needs.”

For stressed travelers, speed is everything. The iAPS solution makes sure that the checkout process goes smoothly and payments are processed on the spot.

In 2009 d_parture spa™, the nationally recognized pioneer of the airport day spa concept, opened the world's first and only eco-friendly, full-service airport day spa offering massages, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing, and haircuts.

The newly renovated location is part of d_parture spa™'s ongoing efforts to be an industry leader and responsible corporate citizen. It's newest facility, which is located in Newark Liberty International Airport, Terminal C, has been constructed using innovative, green design concepts, sustainable materials and world-class, eco-friendly products.

Many sustainable design elements were used during the construction of the new d_parture spa™, and they include: opulent bamboo flooring; tables and fixtures made from treefrog veneer; recycled and reclaimed glass materials from previous spa design; nontoxic or no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paint; and compact flourescent lighting and Energy Star appliances. All business cards, signage, brochures, and promotional materials were printed on recycled paper using vegetable and soy-based inks.

About Gina Stern

With a strong belief that everyone is entitled to the experiences they want, not just the ones they are dealt, Gina Stern founded d_parture spa to give travelers a better airport experience. She opened her first location November of 2000 at Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal C and ten years later, the response has been overwhelming. By February of 2003 Gina had added 2 additional locations, Newark International Airport Terminal B and Orlando International Airport Terminal A.

In 2012 Gina pioneered and innovatived yet another new spa concept by developing mobile massage units that deliver massage service to the gates. The new mobile massage units were unveiled at Philadelphia International Airport Terminal F in partnership with Marketplace Development and USair.

In 2013 d_parture spa™, launched its new gateside massage kiosk at Newark Liberty International Airport, Terminal C2 gate 110. The newly designed massage kiosk expands d_parture spa™ massage service to United Airlines International clientele. Future plans include expanding the massage kiosk to airports across the U.S.

Under Gina's direction d_parture spa broke the Million Dollar revenue barrier in 2006 and is poised for major expansion (www.departurespa.com). In March of 2007 d_parture spa was nominated one of the fastest growing companies 2003-2006 by INC. 5000. In 2007 the airport spa concept was recognized by the airport industry as the hottest concept to bring to airports, signaling support of the growth for the airport spas on a global level.

Gina Sterns story has recently been showcased in Nell Merlinos book Stepping Out Of Line and Kimberly Seals Allers latest book Mocha Manual to Turning your Passion into Profit. Gina is also an award recipient and inspirational speaker for the Make Mine a Million Dollar Business program- the only national initiative committed to the growth needs of post-start-up, women owned businesses with less than 1 Million in annual revenue (www.countmein.org). Gina attended the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and received certification through the MBE program.

Gina is widely recognized in the industry and press as the pioneer of the airport spa concept. Gina has been featured on Montel Williams Sept 2007 Rags to Riches discussing her journey to success from an inner city youth and high school drop out to college graduate and CEO of a Million Dollar Enterprise.

Gina has been featured widely in International media on the topic of womens economic empowerment through business and is an expert on the topic of airport spas and travel shortcuts. Gina speaks nationally to women in business, emerging leaders and inner city youth. Current speaking engagements include the "Boss Ladies Panel" for Women Veterans Entrepreneur Corp program and From Marist to Millionaire "Helping Your Vision Take Flight " for the Marist College Emerging Leaders Program.
