d_parture spa™, the nationally recognized pioneer of the airport day spa concept, has opened the world's first and only eco-friendly, full-service airport day spa offering massages, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing, and haircuts.
The newly renovated location is part of d_parture spa™'s ongoing efforts to be an industry leader and responsible corporate citizen. It's newest facility, which is located in Newark Liberty International Airport, Terminal C, has been constructed using innovative, green design concepts, sustainable materials and world-class, eco-friendly products.
"d_parture spa™has created an experience for weary airport travelers that exists nowhere else in the world," said Gina Stern, CEO, d_parture spa™. "We wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to provide our clients with high-quality services and products while simultaneously being good stewards for our planet. By building the first, floor-to-ceiling, eco-friendly airport day spa at Newark Liberty International, we've set a new standard for both spa design and green functionality in the airport industry."
To fully realize an eco-friendly day spa experience, d_parture spa™ partnered with environmentally and socially responsible companies like OSEA Skin, Karma, eco_tribe, MopTop, and floc designs.
"I also have to thank Continental Airlines. Without their support this dream would have never happened," said Stern.
Many sustainable design elements were used during the construction of the new d_parture spa™, and they include: opulent bamboo flooring; tables and fixtures made from treefrog veneer; recycled and reclaimed glass materials from previous spa design; nontoxic or no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paint; and compact flourescent lighting and Energy Star appliances. All business cards, signage, brochures, and promotional materials were printed on recycled paper using vegetable and soy-based inks.
The products that will be used to pamper d-parture spa clients are free of sulfates, parabens, (nail care) toluene, formaldehyde, DBP,chemical preservatives and have not been tested on animals. Traditional cotton towels will be replaced with white cotton t-shirts, the t-shirts will take on a form of distressed fashion, after use in the spa the t-shirts will be stamped with the eco_tribe logo and donated to countries along the western hemisphere.
Stern continued, "The new d_parture spa™is designed to function optimally under environmentally and socially responsible business practices. For example, even when clients aren't in the store, our staff will be using nontoxic cleaning products because we want our commitment to sustainability to be present in every aspect of the business--all the way down to the day-to-day operations."

The new spa features a revolutionary retail program called "The Women's Pagoda," which was created to support women-owned small businesses in partnership with Count Me In (CMI) for Women's Economic Independence. The Women's Pagoda will feature 200 products being offered by more than 20 women-owned small businesses and give these entrepreneurs an exclusive platform to market their products in a previously inaccessible marketplace. CMI is the leading national, nonprofit provider of resources, business education, and community support for women entrepreneurs seeking to grow their micro-businesses into million dollar enterprises.

About Gina Stern
With a strong belief that everyone is entitled to the experiences they want, not just the ones they are dealt, Gina Stern founded d_parture spa to give travelers a better airport experience. She opened her first location November of 2000 at Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal C and ten years later, the response has been overwhelming. By February of 2003 Gina had added 2 additional locations, Newark International Airport Terminal B and Orlando International Airport Terminal A.
Under Ginas direction d_parture spa broke the Million Dollar revenue barrier in 2006 and is poised for major expansion (www.departurespa.com). In March of 2007 d_parture spa was nominated one of the fastest growing companies 2003-2006 by INC. 5000. Gina is also an award recipient and inspirational speaker for the Make Mine a Million Dollar Business program- the only national initiative committed to the growth needs of post-start-up, women owned businesses with less than 1 Million in annual revenue (www.countmein.org). Most recently Gina attended the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and received certification through the MBE program.

Gina has been featured widely in International media on the topic of womens economic empowerment through business and is an expert on the topic of airport spas and travel shortcuts. Gina speaks nationally to women in business, emerging leaders and inner city youth.
In 2009, Gina upgraded the store in Newark (Terminal C) with a green, eco-friendly design, creating the first green airport spa in the world. The spa is being built using eco friendly, recycled, energy saving materials, and also plans to reduce its carbon footprint by reducing all disposable paper spa supplies.
